Mental Ray won't render xGen in Maya 2016 on OSX. This is the error // Warning: line 1: (Mayatomr.Custom): /Applications/NVIDIA Corporation/mentalray-3.14-for-Maya-2016/shaders/include/xgenMR.mi: couldn't find shader library // Seems others are having similar issues and there doesn't seem to be a resolve. I may have spoken too soon. This update of Mental Ray has had the side affect of crashing consistently in batch mode in OSX. I can confirm this because as soon as I rolled back to 3.14.3.41 it worked perfectly again. Unfortunately it doesn't happen with rendering a simple sphere but something more complex causes the problem.
If i start Maya from a terminal window to see the MR output (even on detailed output messages) I get no output. Just a crash of the batch render process. Rendering the same frames within the GUI in the render view works perfectly so there is no issue with the scene.
And it works when rolling back. I've been tearing my hair out over this all day and thought a last resort to roll back might fix it and it did thankfully. Is there any other info i might be able to provide to help you resolve this? I'm using Mila Shaders Outputting additional render passes (UV and Motion vector and custom) to EXR Using render layers Polygons cached with Alembic @ 5 samples per frame Motion blur is on.
